From start to finish, our handbags cross borders, travel thousands of miles and pass through the hands of some of the world’s finest craftsmen. Altari makes no compromise in delivering unparalleled craftsmanship.

Our bags are born in the Russian region of Tatarstan where blocks of supple Italian calf leather are carefully hand-stitched into leather mosaics by the masters of this ancient technique. The handwork required is so meticulous and sophisticated, a single mosaic could take several weeks to complete. In the stitch of each mosaic, one can see the signature mark of each one of our artisans, like a painting, no two mosaics are alike.

There are only a handful of artisans remaining in the world who possess the skills to create leather mosaics. 

From our workshops in Tatarstan, the mosaics are carefully transported to Italy, into the hands of gifted artisans who have been making leather products of the highest quality for generations. In Italy, mosaics join butter-soft leathers and bespoke gold-plated brass fittings to realize our vision for a handbag like no other.

The degree of handicraft that goes into our handbags makes each of them unique and each of our collections extremely limited in nature.
